Just a note: Remember that the email to the prof isn't something we are forcing on the community. It is just a suggestion. We cannot force them to email, neither can we stop them from doing it--though we can try to establish boundaries. | |

Locking a q prevents voting, answering, commenting--pretty much anything (except flagging) that can change the state of a post. We lock posts rarely (three reasons: due to a content dispute, due to too many comments, or if a good post is no longer considered on topic), but it never hurts to request a lock via a custom flag. | |
